The F1rst Hero Issue 2

I'm well into issue two of The F1rst Hero right now and having a blast. The second issues moves locations back to America and has some good character work in it. Here are the first 6 pages from the issue. We open with a fun 2-page prologue before we move back to the main story.

The F1rst Hero Pages 5 - 10

Here are the first set of pages I've completed for the upcoming book "The F1rst Hero" I'm drawing for Action Lab Entertainment. It's a cool story about the emergence of the first superpowered hero in a world where only villains have extra abilities. The first issue takes place primarily in Kandahar Afghanistan, so a bit of a change up in locations compared to what I normally draw.

Daredevil Issue 2 Pages 1-6 Sample Pages

Been working on a creator-owned project for a few months. It was fun to get back to some sample pages. Been working a lot on quite a few things since I last posted some. Enjoy!

These pages are from a fun Mark Waid script for Daredevil #2. It was a lot of fun (and a fun challenge) to draw a fight scene across multiple locations and pages. Oh, and panel 2 from page 5 is a flashback panel (drew it different to make it stand out, but it's a bit tricky to understand without the script context).

X-Men Schism 5

Here are the latest batch of sample pages. A Marvel editor last set asked to see some of my pencils (instead of my pencil/ink combo I've been doing). Happy to oblige! It was weird going back to pencil, but I ended up liking it. I can go either way. As you can see, there is a slightly different look to my style in pencil.

Here are the (hopefully) cleaned-up pencils. I'm not as perfectly tight as a lot of pencillers, but that's why we have great inkers.

Secret Avengers 16 Sample Pages

So, here's a new set. This one was also quite tricky. A lot of that comes from that fact that I only had the last 5 pages of the script and had no context of the previous pages. I did some research and found out the Avengers are trying to escape from an underground city (hence the elevator into the sky on the last page).

The pages were primarily action involving vehicles - another fun channel - but I worked really hard on keeping the action flowing clearly and obvious (while still exciting and dynamic). I also tightened up some of my rendering this time (a change-up from my previous pages).

And here are the pencils (unfortunately, I didn't get a pencil scan of the last page (though most of the page was done by hand instead of a digital/traditional mix)).

Daredevil #1 Sample

These pages were hard. And it wasn't the acrobatic nature of Daredevil or the crazy angles - it was the storytelling. It's a great script by Mark Waid - but trying to find a way to keep three pages of jumping around visually varied and interesting while still keeping a sense of location was a bit tricky.

I also took some risks with these pages (see page 2), but I felt they were justified in the storytelling. I wasn't doing tricks for tricks' sake. With Daredevil and the Spot you have sonar, circular motiffs, etc. I wanted to play with that.

Anyways, very tough (I drew and redrew several panels over and over), but very fun.

Again, here are my pencils. Did layouts digitally, then pencilled the remainder by hand.
